Milton Keynes College welcomes new students at Freshers Fair

Milton Keynes College welcomed its new cohort of 16-18 students with an exciting Freshers Fair event. Happening at the College’s Chaffron Way campus on 6^th September and its Bletchley campus on 7^th September, the events were designed to welcome new and returning students, offer information about societies and clubs they could join, signpost them to any additional support services and host local stakeholders who can also offer their support.

The stands included the College’s music, LGBTQ+ and sports societies as well as the student council. Plus, outside organisations including Thames Valley Police, the Terrence Higgins Trust and Milton Keynes City Council were on hand to talk to students about the support they can offer.

New learners could also enjoy music performances from current students and complimentary mocktails and food from the College’s student-run restaurant, the Brasserie.

Jack Maude, Personal Development Lead at Milton Keynes College Group said: “We’re so pleased with the fantastic turnout for our Fresher’s Fair events, both at our Chaffron Way and Bletchley campuses. It’s very important for us to not only support our learners with their studies, but also to encourage them to be part of the wider community at the College and in Milton Keynes as a whole. That’s why we wanted to show them the huge range of clubs, societies and groups that they can get involved in at the College, as well as the support services from both inside and outside the College that can help them if they need extra support.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the colleagues who helped to make the day such a success. The Fresher’s Fair was an amazing way to kick off the 2023/24 academic year, and we can’t wait to see what great things are students achieve with their studies and beyond.”

What to bring for your Discovery Day

So you’ve booked onto your Discovery Day, great job!

To get the most out of your day, it’s important that you come prepared. Please review the list below to see what you need to bring and wear.

Bletchley

Applied Science – Bring a notebook and pen.

Barbering – Wear black trousers, plain T-shirt, closed toe shoes and minimal jewellery. Bring a bottle of water.

Beauty Therapy – Wear black trousers, plain T-shirt, closed toe shoes and minimal jewellery. Bring a bottle of water.

Business – Smart casual clothing. Bring a notebook, pen and bottle of water.

Creative & Digital Arts – Wear appropriate clothing for a work environment (Jeans & T-shirt are fine). Bring a notebook and pen.

Digital Technologies – Smart casual clothing. Bring a notepad and pen.

Esports – Bring a notebook and pen.

Fashion & Textiles – You may be using messy materials. Wear suitable clothes. Bring a notebook and pen.

Foundation Arts Diploma – You may be using paint/messy materials, so we would advise wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting art materials on. Please bring a notebook and pen.

Graphic Design – Wear work-appropriate clothing (Jeans & T-shirt are fine). Bring a notebook and pen.

Hairdressing – Wear closed toe shoes, no jewellery, hair tied back, short nails. Bring a notebook, pen and bottle of water.

Hospitality – Hair tied back, nails short, no jewellery. Bring a bottle of water.

Leadership Academy – Wear sports clothing. Bring a notebook and pen.

Motor Vehicle – Casual clothing and sturdy footwear. Avoid best trainers. Bring a notebook and pen.

Professional Cookery – Hair tied back, nails short, no jewellery. Bring a bottle of water.

Public Services – Wear appropriate clothes for practical teamwork. Avoid best clothing. Bring a notebook, pen and bottle of water.

T Level in Management & Administration – Smart casual clothing. Bring a notebook, pen and bottle of water.

Chaffron Way

Bricklaying – Wear trousers (no shorts/skirts), polo shirt and sturdy footwear. Avoid best clothing. Bring a notebook and pen.

Carpentry – Wear trousers (no shorts/skirts), polo shirt and sturdy footwear. Avoid best clothing. Bring a notebook and pen.

Childcare – Bring a notebook, pen and bottle of water.

Engineering – Wear trousers (no shorts/skirts), polo shirt and sturdy footwear. Bring a notebook, pen, calculator and refreshments.

Games, Animation & Visual FX – Wear casual clothing. If sunny, wear sunscreen.

Health & Social Care – Bring a notebook, pen and bottle of water.

Painting & Decorating – Wear trousers (no shorts/skirts), polo shirt and sturdy footwear. Avoid best clothing. Bring a notebook and pen.

Performing Arts – Wear comfortable, appropriate clothing.

T Level in Construction – Wear trousers (no shorts/skirts), polo shirt and sturdy footwear. Avoid best clothing. Bring a notebook and pen.

Sports Central for Football

Football Studies – Please wear/bring a practical football training kit with boots, shin pads, and a drink
